Vigilant Wisdom

Proverbs 4 holds one of my favorite verses . . . although, I do have many favorites! But this one in Proverbs is one that I go to frequently when I’m counseling with women.

It’s verse 23 .  . . which says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”  Some versions of the Bible say to “Watch over your heart with all diligence” . . .either way . . . we are told that this wisdom ~ acquiring it and living by it ~ takes effort .. work .. consistency .. devotion .. fortitude . . . . . shall I go on?

This whole chapter in Proverbs is filled with action verbs!  Wisdom does not come by wishful thinking or osmosis!  It takes effort on our part!  Listen to some of these action words ~ hear, give attention, hold fast, keep, acquire, prize, accept, take hold, guard, incline your ear . . .

Stay On the Path

Today my hubby and I went on a hike in the hills of Techachapi, California. (Which is also why I’m posting 2 posts today!) We are at an elevation of 4,000ft . .  and this is our first day here . .  oh! and you should know . . . I live in an elevation of .. . ZERO.  Now, I’ve been working on getting back in shape by working out at an Insanity class.  So, I thought I could handle this . . . . NOT!! And . . double NOT!!

I did my best to stay on the path laid out before us . . but it was an EPIC fail for me.

The hike today did help me to understand the importance of staying on the path . . especially the path that leads to living wisely.

Proverbs 4:11-12

“I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness.  When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.”

Be vigilant in seeking Wisdom . . .and remember . . .the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
