Wisdom’s Life Lessons 1.0

Time to Transition!  Proverbs 10

We now come to the part of Proverbs that most of us are familiar with and would say is what Proverbs is all about ~ the Wisdom Statements of Solomon!

Each verse, from here until the end, is set as a two-line saying that is meant to drive home an important life lesson(s).  They appear to be in no type of order and seem to make no sense, and each seems complete in itself, commentaries would say differently.  One I read said that with . . .

a close look at the author’s themes, choice of words, and means of expression reveals deliberate connections. Su h links, while they may appear only cosmetic, suggest deeper connections.  Behind and beneath all of life’s apparently random experiences is a God who holds this world together and in whom all things make sense.

Praise God for that!!  I am so grateful He holds all things together . . even when it seems not to make sense to my little mind.

So, what do we find in Proverbs 10?

Let’s break it down into 2 lists ~ The Wise, Righteous person & the Foolish, Wicked person

Wise & Righteous Man/Woman:

  • makes the father glad
  • is delivered from death
  • won’t go hungry
  • will have blessings
  • will gather & be productive
  • welcomes commandments
  • his/her integrity will yield security
  • their words are ‘fountain of life’
  • they cover all offenses with love
  • because they heed instruction, they will always be on the path of life
  • they restrain their words
  • wisdom is pleasurable to them
  • their desires are granted
  • they will live a long life

The Foolish & Wicked Man/Woman:

  • brings sorrow to their mother
  • there is no profit in the treasures they gain
  • they crave & crave & crave . . . can’t get any satisfaction
  • sleep when they should be productive
  • their ‘name’ (reputation) rots
  • they will come to ruin
  • they are crooked and they will get caught
  • they stir up strife
  • they reject reproof & lead others astray
  • they ‘run-off-at-the-mouth’
  • what he/she dreads, will happen
  • they will live a short life
