Bad Attitude

It’s simple ….

A bad attitude comes when we go against His command to ….

Do ALL things without GRUMBLING & DISPUTING

The Lord had Paul write these words to the church at Philippi.

Honestly …. Some days I am grateful He did …. and some days I’m definitely NOT! (just being real with ya’ll!)

But let me put the whole context in here …. this is Philippians 2, verses 14 through 16 … it’s one long complex sentence in the Greek 🙂

Do all things without grumbling or disputing;

so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you dappear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

Whether Teaching or Speaking ….

I was once taught that when you put a Bible lesson together or put a talk together for a group, it is best if you follow this pattern …

“I want them to know (_fill in the blank _) , so that they will (_ fill in the blank _) “

What does Paul want the people in Philippi to know?  To do ALL things without grumbling or disputing!

What is the ‘so that’ that Paul lays out?  SO THAT …. let’s list them

  • they will prove themselves blameless & innocent
  • they would shine brightly in the ‘crooked & perverse’ world that they live in
  • they show the community around them their unity and trust in God

What is the Lord looking for here?

He is looking for His children to live in a way where others just don’t hear us continually expressing our discontent or is continually arguing about our differences of opinion (which remember ‘opinion’ is much different than differing on what His Word says).  In ALL things we must keep ourselves from muttering, murmuring and reasoning or, dare I say, justifying ourselves.

Grumbling, complaining, disputing, arguing ….. all these show truly what is going on in our hearts.  Our heart attitude is revealed in the words that come out of our mouths.

As I Type ….

I sense His conviction on my own heart …. I do struggle in this area.  Recently, I’ve had two times where something has happened in my life and it has stirred a bad attitude in my heart.

One time … yep … it ‘spilled out’.  I did learn from it 🙂  The next time … well, so far I’ve taken it to the Lord and surrendered it to Him.  No spillin’ out for this chica!  I pray He does give me a chance to speak truth in love, though.  This time … I’m waiting on His timing and my heart attitude to be right!

So … today … will you join me and ….

  • Choose to ‘do ALL things without grumbling or disputing’
  • Make it your goal to please Him by giving your heart attitude to Him
  • Passionately pursue this One who knows the ‘uglies’ of our hearts and STILL loves us …

Will you join me, sweet sisters?
