Can I Have More Please?

It’s simple ….

It’s Better to ASK … then just to TAKE

I love the story of David and Bathsheba .. which may seem rather strange to some of you.  But hang in there with me.  You have to know a little of the David and Bathsheba story to understand the goal of this post.

So … let’s review it

King David

David SHOULD have been out at battle but instead he was pacing on his roof top. Why? Well, it could be that he knew he wasn’t where he should be … or it could be something else. The text does not really tell us.

What we do know is that David sees Bathsheba, calls for her, sleeps with her and she becomes pregnant.  David’s really in trouble now!

So … David does what many of us do when we’re gotten ourselves into a bit of trouble … he figures out a way to handle it himself.  He gets Bathsheba’s husband home from the battle, covers up this ‘call’ with asking questions of ‘how are things going’ and then instructs Uriah to ‘enjoy’ being home.

Uriah is an honorable man and won’t do what David hopes he does ~ spend a night with his wife.  So David ramps up his plan and he goes to the extreme … he basically orders Uriah’s death on the front lines.

Do we think that God does not see when we mess up and then try to cover up??

Nathan Speaks with David

To get David’s attention .. finally .. God sends the prophet Nathan to speak to David.  Nathan tells this story of a man who took something he should not have and then Nathan asks David … what should be done with this man?

David’s response: “the man who has done this deserves to die” … and David goes on to say that what was taken should be restored.

Nathan blurts out ~ “YOU ARE THAT MAN!” (2 Sam. 12:7)

Then God Says

Listen to this  …

Nathan then said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul.

‘I also gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these!

New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (2 Sa 12:7–8). LaHabra, CA: The Lockman Foundation.

Did you catch that?

God Says

IF …. if David had thought that ALL that God had given him was TOO LITTLE …. He would have given MORE to David …..

IF HE HAD JUST ASKED

How many times, sweet sisters, have we TAKEN before we have ASKED our Heavenly Father IF we can have it (whatever that it may be)?

Sadly, I am so guilty of this.

Ask Him today what maybe you’ve not asked for and just gone ahead and done without asking.  Ask Him how have you tried to justify it?  Ask Him to show you what He would have given you if you had just asked and then waited for His answer?

I’ll be asking Him these questions too ….

Blessings Sweet Sisters,
