Proverbs 8

This chapter of Proverbs has Lady Wisdom herself speaking. She tells us much about herself ~ like, she was ‘set up’ before the beginning of the world!  This tells us much about how the Father views wisdom!

We typically don’t want to follow wisdom because it can sound restrictive, illogical and not very exciting. But wisdom gives us a great advantage for living right and for making right decisions.

You would like that we would WANT to follow wisdom.

We won’t if we don’t keep it written on the tablet of our heart.  Wisdom says, in verse 17, “I love those who love me, an those who seek me diligently find me.”  And this call is to all humanity ~ the simple and the foolish.

Lady Wisdom says ~

• noble or worthy things
• right things
• truthful things
• just things

Listening to her ~ Lady Wisdom ~ will steer us clear of wickedness and perversity.

Lady Wisdom gives ~

• good counsel
• sound wisdom
• strength
• insight
• understanding

Look at what Lady Wisdom says as this chapter is closed out:

And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways.  Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.  Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting besides my doors.  For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, but he who fails to find me injuries himself; all who hate me love death.

Wisdom enables us to make right decisions in life so that we don’t have to live with the consequences of un-wise choices.

I’ve lived through the consequences of un-wise choices because I probably had the thought that ‘wisdom’ was too restrictive.  Those consequences were not fun . . . so . . .
