Is It Tempting?

It’s simple …

There is NO NEW temptation

Please, sweet sisters, please tell me that I am not the only one who thinks …. “I’ve got to be the ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD who’s tempted with this …..” (whatever the ‘this’ is) Right? I’m not the only one who thinks this …

Sadly, I do jump to the thought that I must be the only one that struggles or the only one who gets sucked into … whatever it might be.  Or I think … “ok, this is a new one … probably no one else would understand this temptation … ”

What Does God Say?

Listen to what Paul writes to the church at Corinth …

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (1 Co 10:13). LaHabra, CA: The Lockman Foundation.

Did you read that?

The first part of this verse really should be said like this ….

“Whenever you receive (or, experience) testing, you should remember that other people have experienced testing like this too.”

Ellingworth, P., Hatton, H., & Ellingworth, P. (1995). A handbook on Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians (p. 223). New York: United Bible Societies.

AND …..

I love this … God is faithful! He is not going to let anyone tempted you beyond what you can endure.  Now .. you and I may think you can’t endure the test you are under, but HE says HE won’t let it happen.

He will help us.  We just have to believe that what He says here … He WILL do.  He keeps His promises.  He is faithful.

Let us not believe the lie that no one else has ever experienced what we are experiencing.  We just don’t talk about what is tempting us because most of the time we think no one will understand.  But He knows and He understand … and HE provides the appropriate way to endure the test.

Let’s believe this …. choose today to hold fast to this truth.
